Over the last decade, a wide variety of medical researchers have shown that cancer patients who use ancillary care, such as support groups, walking programs, and yoga, not only feel better, they may live longer, too. And while only one person may carry a cancer diagnosis, his or her entire family suffers the effects of the disease and its treatment. With 1200 to 1300 new cancer diagnoses in Salem each year, the number of patients, survivors, and family members in the mid-valley who might benefit from support services quickly multiplies.
With this in mind, the Mid-Valley Cancer Care Community opened its doors at 880 Winter Street NE, in downtown Salem, to offer medically appropriate support and education in a non-clinical atmosphere. Nestled beneath towering Douglas firs, the house invites participants with its soothing colors, comfortable furniture, and staff who understand the cancer journey.
